Simple Suggestions to Reduce Downtime and Maintenance Costs

Your equipment is vital to the operation of your business. In addition, it represents one of your biggest investments. In order to get the most out of your equipment, there are some simple things you can do to keep it up and running, reduce maintenance costs, and extend the life of your equipment. While we are always here when you need us, our goal is to be a partner with you in reducing downtime.

Get the Most Out of Your Equipment

Please use the following checklist as a guide to help you maximize your equipment’s performance.

  • Read your Owner’s Manual. Most manufacturers list recommended or required procedures that need to be followed in order to help keep your equipment operating properly and extend the life of your equipment.
  • Keep your equipment clean. A large percentage of equipment failures are due to poor maintenance and lack of routine cleaning.
  • Keep good equipment records. Make a checklist for all equipment and assign responsibility for daily and routine cleaning and maintenance to a specific team member.
  • Make sure your equipment is installed according to specs. For example, most equipment has recommended setbacks that should be followed. This allows for proper air flow, can help keep grease from getting sucked into the control panels, and allows the equipment to be accessed when service is required.
  • If your equipment has a cooling fan, make sure the cooling fan vent is clean of debris. If you notice your cooling fan not moving or making a loud noise, call for service. If this issue is not addressed in a timely manner, it could lead to more costly repairs.
  • Replace broken parts as soon as you notice them. Faulty parts that may not currently impact the operation of your equipment could do so down the road and cost more to fix later.
  • Make sure water filters are replaced as needed.
  • Refrain from hosing down your equipment. Water and electricity don’t mix.
  • Check your cooler and freezer door gaskets to make sure they make a tight seal.
  • Make sure your condensing coils are clean.
  • Consider requesting a planned maintenance program for your equipment. You may not need to include all equipment, but the pieces that are most important to your business should be at the top of your list.
